DDL Super Kids

Super Library Card Campaign

The banner up on the right was one of my first projects out of the gate with DDL. My partner had roughly fifteen different ideas for the banner and for the library card tracker, that simply just were not working, that she wanted to see what I could come up with. I remember looking at some cool pop art explosions, rays and bursts that I figured “what would suit super kids more than something that looked more like a comic?” The rays on the banner compliment and accentuate the card, putting it at the main focus of the banner. I also included the collectable key tags to encourage kids to track their visits and earn all 5. After this everything else fell into place.

Super Kids Posters & Bios

From the banner to posters everything for these kids needed to be fun, bright and most of all…Super! With everyone responding to the Super Library Card positively, I was tasked with creating 10 new super kids to go with the original 5. The original kids represented Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, which ranges from the most basic, like food & water, to transforming yourself and opening your own business. The Director loved the idea of incorporating the library’s organization system, the Dewey categories. And thus the Dewey kids were born! Each one is a unique representation of the category with the icon on their uniform and has their own little bio for the kids to relate themselves to.

2019 Super Kids Calendar & New Year Card

The super kids calendar was actually an after thought of the New Year card that we send out to partners and printers. We loved the cover of the card so much, and was not used to send out, that we thought “Why not a desktop calendar?”. It features the personalities of all 15 super kids perfectly and it is neutral enough to use year round.

Library Card Campaigns with the Super Kids

Below on the left page is an ad for the new Super Library Card. This ad ran through the months of September & October for the 2018 DE Comicon. The other two ads on the right side incorporate all of the library programs and encourage parents and kids to read more.

This ad ran in the DE Comicon Magazine September - October 2018 to promote the new Super Library Card. The blue rays relate this ad back to the banner up.

This ad ran in the Women’s Journal Sept. 2018 and it features the two new kids programs available and to encourage parents & kids to read.

This ad ran in the Women’s Journal in February 2019. It states what wonderful things the library has available to everyone with a card. Also features the kids cards at the bottom of the ad.
